At Green Pistachio, we’re thrilled to roll out the Impact Shift Series, a fresh, conversational space where bold changemakers who swapped corporate badges for sustainable missions open up about their journeys.

We created the Impact Shift Series to give these inspiring heroes a place to share their challenges, celebrate their wins, and show how they’re creating real-world impact. By spotlighting their stories, we hope to spark more purposeful career shifts that help both people and the planet.

Our very first guest, Mr Rahul Bakare, is the perfect example of what this series is all about. Rahul made the leap from a thriving career as a software engineer in the U.S. IT industry to become a social entrepreneur tackling one of India’s biggest issues: water scarcity. Teaming up with hydrogeologist Vinit Phadnis, he co-founded Urdhvam Environmental Technologies and helped bring to life the BoreCharger, a clever robotic device that revives tired, depleted borewells.

Beyond the Well: The BoreCharger’s Wider Impact

So how does the BoreCharger work? Think of it as a high-tech borewell superhero. It uses a camera to map underground aquifers, then gently perforates borewell casings so rainwater can sneak into deeper groundwater layers. The result: better well performance and healthier long-term water cycles. And the impact stretches far beyond a single well. By helping farmers regain steady access to clean water, the BoreCharger boosts agricultural productivity, supports rural livelihoods, and strengthens the resilience of India’s wider economy. In many regions, it’s become nothing short of a lifeline, reviving thousands of wells, restoring ecosystems, and inspiring a new culture of water stewardship.

Rahul’s shift from corporate engineer to sustainability innovator captures the heart of the Impact Shift Series: the courage to step off the well-worn path and the drive to make a meaningful difference. Guided by the principles of the triple bottom line, he considers not just profit, but the well-being of people and the health of the planet in every initiative, proving that business success and positive social and environmental impact can go hand in hand.
